12 MONTHS / 40 HOURS PER WEEK POSITION, MONDAY - FRIDAY

PRIMARY WORK LOCATION: WEED CAMPUS

 

Under the direction of the Vice President- Administrative Services, organize and direct the activities and operations of the bookstore; collaborate with faculty to assure proper inventory and stock of textbooks and supplies; train and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.

  • Organize and direct the activities and operations of the bookstore.

  • Train and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.

  • Assure the provision of quality products for sale to assist with student success.

  • Develop, prepare, and manage the budget to assure the fiscal solvency of the bookstore.

  • Analyze and review budgetary and financial data.

  • Control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established limitations.

  • Prepare and maintain a variety of reports, records, and files related to personnel and assigned activities.

  • Open and close the store.

  • Operate a cash register as required.

  • Collaborate with faculty to assure proper inventory and stock of textbooks and supplies in accordance with College policies and procedures.

  • Communicate with administrators, personnel and outside organizations to coordinate activities, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information.

  • Identify ordering sources and research prices.

  • Identify current trends and changes in the college book industry.

  • Develop booklists for students from supply and textbook requirements.

  • Bill departments for bookstore charges.

  • Supervise and coordinate textbook sales rental and e-book programs.

  • Coordinate online sales utilizing and assigned website and software.

  • Organize textbook buyback events as required.

  • Identify current trends and changes in the college book industry focusing on market trends and customer requirements.

  • Create and implement a marketing plan for the College Store to insure self-sufficiency of the College Store. 

  • Operate a computer and assigned software programs.

  • Operate other office equipment as assigned.

  • Attend a variety of meetings as assigned.

  • Any combination equivalent to:  Associate's degree in business management or related field

  • Two years increasingly responsible retail experience

  • Principles of retail merchandising practices and sales techniques and sales tax laws.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.

  • Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 25 lb objects.

Selection Process:

After the preliminary screening, selected candidates will be invited to the campus for an initial interview with the Search Committee. Videoconference interviews (in lieu of an in-person initial interview) will be offered.  Candidates to be interviewed will be selected from applicants who most closely meet the minimum and desired qualifications.  Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview.  The Search Committee will recommend finalists to the Superintendent/President for a final interview.

The District reserves the right to re-advertise the position or to delay indefinitely filling of the position if it is deemed that applicants for the position do not constitute an adequate applicant pool or if funding is not available.

 

Conditions of Employment:

Employees must satisfy all the pre-employment requirements prior to appointment that include, but are not limited to, tuberculosis clearance (EC 87408.6), fingerprint processing, and verification of their legal right to work in the United States.  A pre-employment physical examination is required for this position.
