ESL Temporary Part-Time Instructor

We are actively seeking temporary part-time English as-a-Second Language instructors for non-credit ESL.

The College of the Siskiyous follows the minimum qualification guidelines set forth in the “Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges.” 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in teaching English as a second language, or teaching English to speakers of other languages OR

 

  1. A bachelor’s degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, or speech; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor OR

 

  1. Bachelor’s degree with any of the majors specified in subparagraph (2) above; and one year of experience teaching English as a second language in an accredited institution; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which may be completed concurrently during the first two years of employment as a noncredit instructor OR

 

  1. Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in English as a second language.

Salary: The salary is $30.61 per hour for Adult Education. (Non-Credit)

Benefits: Adjunct employees have the choice of two retirement plans.  CalSTRS (California State Teachers Retirement System), and APPLE (Accumulation Program for Part-Time and Limited Service Employees.)

Screening Process:

Applications are accepted on an on-going basis for the listed positions and in any other discipline throughout the year. Applications for adjunct teaching positions will be used to create a pool of qualified applicants for future hiring.  Applications will be kept on file for one year.

 

Conditions of Employment:

Employees must satisfy all the pre-employment requirements prior to appointment that include, but are not limited to, tuberculosis clearance (EC 87408.6), fingerprint processing, and verification of their legal right to work in the United States.
